Pipe Major Ewan Henderson

Ewan was originally taught by his dad Philip with additional tuition from Willie MacDonald of Benbecula. In 1991 Ewan joined the Grade 1 Black Bottle Whisky Pipe Band, and after studying he became a police officer with Strathclyde Police and played with the police pipe band for 12 years. Ewan cites his major achievements as winning the Grade 1 Scottish, British, Cowal and European Championships during this time.

Latterly Ewan was Pipe Sergeant with Strathclyde Police for 3 years before deciding to move on to a fresh challenge and join Williamwood. Ewan is committed to building on Williamwood's previous successes, and excited about the opportunity to ensure a positive and progressive future for the band in Grade 2 and beyond.

Lead Drummer Bill Fraser

Bill has been drumming since the age of 12, becoming leading drummer with 1st West Kilbride Boys Brigade Pipe Band before moving to the Stevenson Pipe Band under the tuition of James Brown. At this time, Bill successfully competed in solo events winning at both juvenile and senior levels. Bill thereafter competed with the Grade 1 Johnny Walker Pipe Band for several years, before emigrating to South Africa where he joined the Richmond Avenue Pipe Band, also in Grade 1.

While in South Africa, Bill helped establish the South African Military Health Service Pipe Band where he was leading drummer. His own drumming and teaching skills expanded throughout this time, touring extensively with the military, and in his leading role teaching drumming and percussion. Bill was author of the military drumming curriculum and responsible for all of the drum scores for both the pipe and military bands.

From a tuition perspective, Bill has a proven track record, holds the RSPBA drumming qualifications and is a member of the RSPBA Instructors Team. He is also an accomplished musician across a range of musical genres.

Bill’s experience in Grade 1, his experience as a leading drummer, his background in tuition, and his accomplishments across a range of musical genres is a huge asset to the band. Bill is excited about the opportunity to develop the drums corps and is looking forward to contributing to the progression of the band.
